INDIA FIRST . RAIPUR . RITESH SAHU
The story of Mizoram’s young weightlifter Isaac Malsawmtluanga is a powerful example of resilience, determination, and courage. Despite losing both his parents at a young age, Isaac rose above adversity to win a gold medal at the Khelo India Tribal Games 2026, making his family and the nation proud.
Isaac lost his father in a road accident in 2018—the same year he began weightlifting. In 2024, he suffered another devastating loss when his mother passed away due to cancer.

These back-to-back tragedies deeply affected him, and at one point, he was on the verge of quitting the sport altogether. However, the unwavering support of his uncle, aunt, and childhood coach helped him stay focused and continue pursuing his dreams.
Fighting Injury, Rising to Glory
Ahead of the Khelo India Tribal Games 2026, Isaac was struggling with a back injury, and his coach had even advised him to skip the tournament. But showing remarkable determination, Isaac chose to compete. After finishing second in the snatch category, he delivered an outstanding performance in the clean and jerk, lifting a total of 235 kg to secure the gold medal in the men’s 60 kg category.

Isaac’s uncle and aunt played a crucial role in his journey. The couple, who run a small restaurant in Aizawl, took him in and ensured he could continue both his education and training without interruption. After his victory, the emotional moment when his uncle embraced him highlighted the sacrifices and support behind his success.
A Journey of Determination
Since 2024, Isaac has been training at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) National Centre of Excellence (NCOE) in Imphal, while also continuing his studies through distance education.

His consistent efforts began paying off—he won a silver medal at a junior competition in 2025 and later secured a bronze at the National Weightlifting Championship the same year.
An Inspiration for Millions
Isaac’s journey proves that no matter how difficult life becomes, strong determination can overcome any obstacle.

His story is not just about winning a medal—it is about defeating circumstances and emerging stronger, inspiring countless young athletes across the country.
