A tragic accident has been reported from Mahasamund, where a ropeway trolley at the Khallari Mata Temple suddenly snapped, turning a spiritual journey into chaos and panic.
According to initial reports, one young woman lost her life in the incident, while several devotees were injured, some of them critically.
The accident occurred during the auspicious occasion of Navratri, when a large number of devotees had gathered at the temple . While returning via the ropeway, the cable reportedly broke mid-way.
The trolley crashed into the hillside, causing passengers to fall nearly 20 feet. Shockingly, another trolley moving upward also lost balance during the incident, worsening the situation.
Panic spread across the temple premises immediately after the accident. Local residents and police teams rushed to the spot and launched rescue operations, shifting the injured to nearby hospitals.
Serious allegations of negligence have emerged, with reports suggesting major lapses in ropeway maintenance. The district administration has ordered an inquiry into the incident.
An FIR has been registered against the ropeway operating company and its staff. Authorities are now investigating whether the accident could have been prevented.
The incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of devotees, especially during peak religious gatherings.
