A serious vehicle crisis has surfaced in the Dhamtari Municipal Corporation, raising questions over administrative efficiency and infrastructure management.

The situation has become so severe that the Mayor’s official vehicle has been lying defunct for the past 25 days. Meanwhile, the Corporation’s Chairperson, Kaushalya Devangan, has been commuting by rickshaw for the last seven days, as her official vehicle is also reportedly out of order. According to the Chairperson, her vehicle was suddenly withdrawn without prior notice, leaving her with no option but to rely on a rickshaw for daily travel. On the other hand, the Mayor stated that most of the Corporation’s vehicles have become unserviceable and there is an urgent need for new ones.

This situation has triggered serious questions, especially in the context of the government’s “triple-engine” development claims. Critics argue that if a municipal body is unable to even repair or maintain vehicles for its elected representatives, it reflects poorly on governance.

The image of a Female official traveling by rickshaw has also been seen by many as not in line with the dignity of the post.

The issue has now taken a political turn, with opposition leaders launching sharp attacks on the ruling party, questioning its claims of development and efficient administration.
