A shocking security incident occurred on Wednesday night when a man opened fire at National Conference president and former Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah during a wedding function in Jammu. Fortunately, Abdullah escaped unharmed after his security personnel reacted swiftly.

According to officials, the incident took place when Abdullah arrived at a wedding ceremony in Jammu along with Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary. CCTV footage from the venue shows a 70-year-old man approaching from behind and pointing a revolver at Abdullah’s head.
Security personnel immediately intervened and pushed the attacker’s hand away, causing the bullet to fire into the air instead of hitting the former Chief Minister. The accused was quickly overpowered and taken into custody.

Attacker Claims He Wanted to Kill Abdullah for 20 Years
The attacker has been identified as Kamal Singh Jamwal. During initial questioning, he reportedly told police that he had wanted to kill Abdullah for nearly 20 years and had come to the event with that intention.
Police said the accused possessed a licensed firearm, which he had been using for several years. Authorities are currently investigating the motive and circumstances surrounding the attack.

Security Lapse Questioned
Reacting to the incident, Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Farooq Abdullah’s son, raised serious concerns about security arrangements.
In a post on X, Omar said it was alarming that a man carrying a loaded pistol could reach point-blank range of a leader who has Z+ security protection. He thanked God that his father survived the attack and demanded answers regarding the security lapse.
Deputy CM Surinder Choudhary also questioned the arrangements at the venue, asking how such a major breach could occur during the high-profile event.
