INDIA FIRST . UJJAIN . AMRIT BENDWAL
On the auspicious occasion of Mahashivratri, the doors of the world-famous Jyotirlinga Mahakaleshwar Temple were opened for devotees at 2:30 am. This coincided with the divine Bhasma Aarti of Lord Mahakal, for which thousands of devotees had been standing in queues since night. It is believed that witnessing the Bhasma Aarti on Mahashivratri destroys all suffering.

First, Lord Mahakal was anointed with Hari Om water. This was followed by offering saffron and sandalwood paste, followed by ritualistic worship with milk, yogurt, ghee, honey, and fruit juice. After divine adornment with cannabis and dried fruits, the deity’s favorite bhasma was offered. Devotees were overwhelmed when the aarti was performed in the light of lamps, accompanied by the sound of cymbals, bells, and conch shells, and the temple lights were briefly turned off.

According to the temple administration, the temple doors will remain open for 44 hours on Mahashivratri, and worship will continue day and night. Normally, the Bhasma Aarti is performed at 4 a.m., but due to Shivaratri, the next day’s Bhasma Aarti will be performed at 12 noon. The continuous darshan system will conclude with a special Bhasma Aarti on February 16th at noon.

Under the mobile darshan system, thousands of devotees, including those sitting outside the sanctum sanctorum, also received darshan through LED screens. On this occasion, Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya also arrived with his family for darshan. He told the media that he has been visiting Baba Mahakal for the past 51 years.
On Mahashivratri, Ujjain witnessed a remarkable confluence of faith, belief, and devotion, where a flood of devotees poured into the court of King Mahakal.
