INDIA FIRST . RAJASTHAN . RAKESH SHARMA

Amid rising concerns over an intense summer in Rajasthan, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has gone into full action mode to tackle the looming drinking water crisis. Anticipating severe heatwave conditions and recurring summer water shortages, the state government has taken a series of proactive and large-scale measures to ensure uninterrupted supply of drinking water across the state.

In a significant move, all leaves of officials of the Public Health Engineering Department have been cancelled with immediate effect. This decision aims to ensure that field-level operations remain fully functional and responsive during the critical summer months. Additionally, a comprehensive Summer Contingency Plan has been implemented across all 41 districts of Rajasthan to strengthen preparedness and response mechanisms. As part of this plan, control rooms have been established at both the state and district levels to monitor the situation in real time and address complaints swiftly. A special monitoring system has also been put in place to ensure quick resolution of water-related issues and maintain consistent supply.

The government has made substantial financial allocations to support these efforts. An amount of ₹55.88 crore has been earmarked for urban areas, while ₹154.83 crore has been allocated for rural regions, where water scarcity is often more severe. In addition, separate provisions have been made for water transportation, with ₹23 crore allocated for cities and ₹82.37 crore for villages to ensure water reaches even the most remote areas.

To further strengthen on-ground response, district collectors have been provided with a contingency fund of ₹1 crore each for emergency requirements. The government has also approved the hiring of vehicles and labor to support water supply operations and ensure timely delivery.

The Chief Minister has issued clear directives to officials to prioritize public welfare and ensure that every citizen receives safe and adequate drinking water. The state government has expressed confidence that, with these timely and comprehensive measures, Rajasthan will be able to effectively manage the summer water crisis and prevent any major shortages this year.
