Lucknow: A major development has emerged from Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, where protests were reported after the Alvida Namaz on Friday. Demonstrators raised slogans against the United States and Israel outside several mosques in the city.
According to reports, flags of the United States and Israel were placed on the ground outside some mosques, and people leaving after the prayers were seen stepping over them. Anticipating possible protests, the administration had already deployed heavy police forces across sensitive areas of the city. The demonstration was reportedly announced earlier by Shia cleric Maulana Kalbe Jawad. In response, authorities remained on high alert throughout the day. Security was tightened in several parts of Old Lucknow, and traffic diversions were implemented in multiple areas.
At the Aishbagh Eidgah Jama Masjid, Alvida Namaz was offered under the leadership of Maulana Khalid Rashid. Special arrangements were also made at the historic Teela Wali Masjid, where, according to the mosque’s deputy imam Imtiyaz Hasan, the Alvida Namaz has been offered for nearly 370 years.
Meanwhile, a large number of members of the Shia community also gathered at the Asifi Masjid to offer the prayers. After the prayers concluded, protests and slogan-shouting against the United States and Israel were reported in some parts of the city.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation to ensure law and order is maintained.
