INDIA FIRST . RAIPUR . RITESH SAHU

Inspired by the brilliant all-round performance of captain Kiran Pisda, the Chhattisgarh women’s football team has secured a place in the final of the first edition of the Khelo India Tribal Games (KITG) 2026. Meanwhile, the state’s women’s hockey team has also kept its medal hopes alive by reaching the bronze medal match. In a thrilling semifinal held at the Swami Vivekananda Kota Stadium, Chhattisgarh defeated Arunachal Pradesh in a dramatic penalty shootout. The match ended 2-2 in regulation time, after which Chhattisgarh clinched a 4-3 victory in the shootout.

Kiran Pisda’s Match-Winning Performance

Indian international player Kiran Pisda emerged as the star of the match with her exceptional performance. Having already scored nearly 20 goals in the tournament, she once again showcased her attacking prowess by scoring in the 18th minute, giving her team a 2-0 lead. However, Arunachal Pradesh made a strong comeback with goals in the 41st and 86th minutes, leveling the score at 2-2 and pushing the match into penalties.

In a bold and inspiring move, Kiran took on the role of goalkeeper, replacing the regular keeper Yogita. Her leadership proved decisive as she made two crucial saves during the shootout and also successfully converted a penalty herself, securing a memorable victory for her team. Speaking after the match, Kiran said,
“I was determined to take my team to the final at any cost. I was confident about playing as a goalkeeper, as I have done it before for my state team. My hard work paid off, and this is a proud moment for all of us.”

Chhattisgarh will now face the winner of the semifinal between Jharkhand and Gujarat in the final. Notably, Chhattisgarh had earlier defeated Gujarat 2-1 in the group stage, with Kiran also scoring in that match.
