The holy city of Ujjain is set to host the prestigious international conference, “Mahakaal: The Master of Time”, from April 3 to 5, 2026. This three-day event brings together renowned scientists, researchers, astronomers, and experts from across India and abroad to explore the intersection of ancient knowledge and modern space science.

The opening ceremony will be graced by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, along with Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, other central ministers, and leading scientists and scholars from around the country.

Dr. Anil Kothari, Director General of the Madhya Pradesh Science & Technology Council, highlighted that the conference aims to re-establish Ujjain as a global center for time calculation. The event will also discuss India’s rich astronomical heritage, its role in the space economy, and how Madhya Pradesh can emerge as a leading hub for space science and technology.

Over the three days, participants will engage in six intensive sessions covering diverse scientific topics. Notably, on April 4, a special session will be held at the Dongla Observatory, where the Chief Minister will again participate. The Dongla location, situated on the Tropic of Cancer, is considered highly significant from an astronomical perspective.

In addition, the Ujjain Science Center, constructed with a cost of approximately ₹16 crore in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, will be inaugurated during the conference. The center aims to transform the Taramandal campus into a major scientific facility, fostering research and education in astronomy and space sciences.

To encourage students and young researchers, the conference will host workshops, expert lectures, and brainstorming sessions, providing practical insights into space science and emerging technologies.

This conference is regarded as a unique platform where India’s ancient knowledge tradition meets modern technology to shape future scientific directions. The event also represents a significant step in establishing Ujjain as a global Time Scale Center, promoting research, education, and international collaboration.
