The Municipal Corporation of Jagdalpur recently announced a massive development budget of ₹2.4 billion (₹240 crore), with Mayor Sanjay Pandey expressing pride over the ambitious plans for urban development. However, on the ground, residents living between Dalpat Sagar and Deendayal Ward continue to struggle with basic civic amenities, raising concerns over the gap between planning and execution.

Locals report persistent issues such as lack of clean drinking water, dilapidated roads, and poorly maintained drainage systems, which are significantly affecting their daily lives.

A resident, Lakshmi, stated that she has been forced to fetch water from other wards for months, as the local supply remains irregular. She also highlighted that drains in the area are rarely cleaned. Another resident, Kavita Bothra, said that the drinking water crisis has continued for the past six months, and repeated complaints have yielded no results. Meanwhile, Snehal Mandal emphasized the urgent need for larger and better drainage systems in Deendayal Ward to prevent overflow during the rainy season, which often leads to water entering homes.

Responding to the concerns, BJP District Vice President and Dalpat Sagar Ward Councillor Narsingh Rao acknowledged that the issue is linked to the junction of three wards. He stated that he was informed by residents earlier in the day and would soon conduct an inspection along with the municipal technical team.

Rao further explained that due to a limited number of sanitation workers, drain cleaning is carried out only once every 20–25 days. Regarding road conditions, he mentioned that while construction work had been done earlier, new asphalt (tar road) work has now been approved in response to residents’ demands.

The situation highlights the ongoing challenges in ensuring basic infrastructure, even as large-scale development plans are announced for the city.
